Amaravati: The Chandrababu Naidu Collectors Conference, held once every three months under the leadership of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, is drawing attention for its marathon duration and scale. While some people criticize these meetings, others support them as an attempt to closely monitor governance and administration.
Critics question the need for such conferences every three months, asking what significant changes can occur in such a short period. They wonder whether district collectors are expected to perform like superheroes and resolve every issue simply through repeated instructions during the Chandrababu Naidu Collectors Conference.
Officials, ministers and department heads often sit for several hours while the Chief Minister reviews development works and directs them to address various problems. However, many of the issues faced by the public are directly linked to funding. In any district, problems cannot be solved merely by the will of the collector; adequate financial support from the state government is required.
For such funding, district collectors depend on the state government. However, the financial condition of the government itself has become a matter of concern. Reports indicate that the government is managing its daily expenditure largely through borrowings, while the state treasury has come under pressure due to extensive welfare spending.
The state government frequently approaches the Reserve Bank of India for loans to manage daily expenses. Without such borrowing, officials say even the payment of salaries to government employees could become difficult. Pending bills worth lakhs of crores are reportedly circulating between departments and the finance department.
In such circumstances, some critics question the effectiveness of the Chandrababu Naidu Collectors Conference, arguing that repeated review meetings alone cannot solve issues that require large financial resources.
Supporters of the government, however, say these meetings help monitor governance and review the progress of development programs across districts. They believe the conferences are useful for evaluating issues discussed in previous meetings and addressing administrative problems that do not require major funding.
The practice has also drawn comparisons with the previous YSRCP government led by former Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. During his tenure, collectors’ conferences were held less frequently, though observers say he maintained strong control over the administrative machinery.

Some analysts believe Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is trying to strengthen administrative monitoring through the Chandrababu Naidu Collectors Conference, though critics say officials sometimes present overly optimistic reports during such meetings.
The latest collectors’ conference reportedly began at 10 a.m. on Wednesday and continued until nearly 10 p.m. on Friday, keeping much of the administrative machinery stationed in Amaravati for two days.
Political observers note that while the Chandrababu Naidu Collectors Conference reflects an attempt to closely review governance, its real impact will depend on financial resources and effective follow-up on the decisions taken.
