Root remained unbeaten on 99 and earned the Player of the Match award for a composed innings that anchored the successful chase.

England vs India 2nd ODI: India Fail to Build on Promising Starts

India’s batting lineup showed promise but failed to convert starts into a match-winning total. After opting to bat, the visitors were bowled out for 233 in 44 overs, well short of using their allotted 50 overs.

Virat Kohli led the scoring with an elegant 65 off 66 balls, while Shreyas Iyer added a valuable 66 from 71 deliveries. Captain Shubman Gill contributed 31, and Rohit Sharma scored 26 before falling just as he looked set.

However, India’s middle order collapsed under sustained pressure. Ishan Kishan managed only one run, Washington Sundar scored two, Axar Patel added one, and Shivam Dube departed without scoring. Gurnoor Brar chipped in with seven, while Jasprit Bumrah’s unbeaten 20 off 13 balls, including three boundaries and a six, pushed India past the 230-run mark.

England’s disciplined bowling attack kept India under control throughout the innings. Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson claimed three wickets each, Saqib Mahmood picked up two, while Sam Curran and Will Jacks grabbed one wicket apiece.

England vs India 2nd ODI: Joe Root Anchors Clinical Chase

England’s chase began on a disappointing note as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Ben Duckett for a duck in the opening over. Prasidh Krishna then removed Jacob Bethell for four, leaving the hosts in early trouble.

Joe Root responded with remarkable composure. He rotated the strike effectively and punished loose deliveries without taking unnecessary risks. Harry Brook contributed 16 before Sam Curran added an important 26-run knock that steadied the innings.

Will Jacks scored a useful 30, while former captain Jos Buttler chipped in with 17. After India reduced England to 197/6, Gus Atkinson joined Root at the crease and remained unbeaten on 23 from just 16 deliveries.

Root finished agonizingly short of a century on 99 not out from 133 balls, striking nine boundaries. His calm approach ensured England crossed the finish line with nearly six overs to spare.

England vs India 2nd ODI: India Bowlers Unable to Finish the Job

India’s bowlers made regular breakthroughs but failed to capitalize during the closing stages of the contest.

Gurnoor Brar was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2 for 67, while Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Shivam Dube and Axar Patel claimed one wicket each.

Although India reduced England to six wickets down, Root and Atkinson combined for an unbeaten partnership that shut the door on any hopes of a comeback.

The victory levels the ODI series at 1-1, setting up a winner-takes-all third ODI. England will carry the momentum into the decider, while India must regroup quickly after missing several opportunities in Cardiff.
