Guntur, Feb 03: District Collector A. Thameem Ansariya directed municipal officials to take planned measures for the systematic management of solid and liquid waste in all urban areas of the district, in accordance with the guidelines of the National Green Tribunal.
The instructions were issued during the District NGT Committee meeting held on Tuesday at the Collectorate video conference hall, attended by the District Collector and Municipal Corporation Commissioner Mayur Ashok.
Speaking on the occasion, the District Collector emphasized that waste must be collected directly from households and managed in an environmentally safe manner with 100 percent efficiency. He instructed officials to ensure complete treatment of sewage water. He also stressed the need to create awareness among residents about producing compost from wet waste within residential areas. Projects that convert recyclable waste into wealth should be expanded further, he added.
He directed officials to take steps for establishing Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in towns to treat sewage water effectively. The treated waste should also be handed over to agencies that have signed MoUs with the government. He further instructed officials to improve public perception and feedback regarding the management of NTR Canteens, door-to-door waste collection, public toilets, sanitation, and drain cleaning.

He informed that composting centers with a capacity of 100 tons are being operated at various locations using wet waste. Plans are underway to establish vermicompost units in every division.
