Prakasam District: The Prakasam District Police secured first place in the state in crime investigation by winning the prestigious ABCD Award for Best Crime Detection for the October–December quarter.
The award and a cash prize were presented to Prakasam District Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju, IPS, by Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta, IPS, at the DGP Headquarters in Mangalagiri on Friday. The ceremony was held in the presence of Guntur Range IG Sarva Shresth Tripathi, IPS, while CID DGP Ravi Shankar Ayyannar, IPS, also attended the programme.
The district police received the ABCD Award for Best Crime Detection for successfully solving a murder case registered at Maddipadu Police Station.

Police Crack Murder Case
On June 23, 2024, the decomposed body of an unidentified 14-year-old girl was found near Kapil Layout plots in Doddavarappadu village of Maddipadu mandal. Based on a complaint by VRO Dandela Mounika, a case was registered under Section 174 Cr.P.C.
Later, after the post-mortem report confirmed murder, the case was altered under Sections 302 and 376(D)(A) read with 34 IPC and Section 6 r/w 5(g) of the POCSO Act.
Under the directions of SP V. Harshavardhan Raju, the investigation was carried out by Ongole DSP R. Srinivasa Rao under the supervision of Ongole Rural CI N. Srikanth Babu with a special police team.
During the investigation, police examined several missing cases and later identified the victim after locating her mother Modadugu Tirupatamma in Singarayakonda on February 14, 2025.
Using technical evidence, police identified three accused — Duddela Chennakrishna (26), Devaraju Vamsi (26), and Dabbu Kottu Kotayya (28) from Ponnaluru mandal. After tracking them across different districts, the police arrested the accused on December 30, 2025.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that they took the girl to Kapil Layout plots, forced her to consume alcohol, sexually assaulted her and later strangled her fearing that the crime would be exposed.

Along with the SP, several police officers and staff who contributed to solving the case were also honoured with the award and cash prize.
Speaking on the occasion, SP V. Harshavardhan Raju said that solving such complex cases strengthens public confidence in the police department. He added that the recognition would motivate the district police to work more efficiently to ensure the safety and security of the public.
