Vigilance Team Intercepts Truck in Major Eluru Ration Rice Seizure on NH-16
Eluru: In a major crackdown on illegal transportation of Public Distribution System (PDS) rice, officials carried out a significant Eluru ration rice seizure, confiscating 258 quintals of rice worth over ₹16 lakh on National Highway-16.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Regional Vigilance and Enforcement Officer K. Nageswara Rao after receiving credible information about illegal ration rice transport.
Vigilance Officials Intercept Truck in Eluru Ration Rice Seizure
As part of the Eluru ration rice seizure, a joint team of Vigilance, Revenue, and Civil Supplies officials intercepted an Ashok Leyland 14-wheel truck (AP 21 DY 2107) near Ratna’s Dhaba at Tangellamudi panchayat in Eluru Rural mandal.
During inspection, officials found 258 quintals (25.80 tonnes) of ration rice being transported illegally from Vijayawada towards Rajahmundry.
The driver, Gorli Ganesh, revealed during questioning that the rice was procured from ration card holders in Vijayawada, Gannavaram, and Penamaluru areas at ₹15 per kilogram.
Illegal Network Behind Eluru Ration Rice Seizure Exposed
Officials said the rice was purchased by Boddepudi Phani Kumar of Nandigama, Nusetti Rangarao of Penamaluru, and their associate Konda. The accused were transporting the rice to Kakinada to sell it illegally for profit.
Authorities seized the ration rice valued at ₹10.32 lakh and the vehicle worth ₹6 lakh, bringing the total value of the Eluru ration rice seizure to ₹16.32 lakh.
A case has been registered under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 against five persons, including the driver and vehicle owner Kondamuri Chandrasekhar.
Officials said strict action will be taken against those involved in illegal ration rice diversion, which deprives poor beneficiaries of essential supplies.
The raid was conducted by Vigilance SI C.H. Ranjith Kumar, officials K. Nagaraju, K. Seetharamu, Revenue Inspector K. Shiva Kumar, and Civil Supplies officials.
