Jeevan Reddy addresses supporters after resigning from Congress in Jagtial

Jeevan Reddy Resigns from Congress in a dramatic and emotional turn of events in Jagtial, ending his four-decade-long association with the party. The senior leader and MLC cited prolonged humiliation and mental distress, triggering strong reactions from party workers and supporters.

Emotional Exit Marks End of Four-Decade Journey

In a symbolic gesture, Jeevan Reddy walked from Indira Bhavan to the local Jambi Hanuman temple along with his supporters, offered prayers, and later addressed a large gathering at Bandari Garden.

Speaking to the crowd, he said his decision was not voluntary but driven by unavoidable circumstances. “No one would willingly walk away from such a long relationship, but I was left with no choice,” he stated.

Recalling his journey since joining the Congress in 1984, he highlighted key milestones, including his record victory in the 1996 by-election and his role as a vocal presence in the Legislative Council.

Allegations of Neglect and Internal Issues

Jeevan Reddy alleged that despite his loyalty, he was consistently sidelined and humiliated within the party. He accused the current leadership of ignoring grassroots workers and promoting leaders who had previously opposed the Congress.

He also expressed concern over the lack of response from Chief Minister Revanth Reddy following the murder of a party worker, questioning whether committed leaders deserved such neglect.

Further, he claimed that internal party decisions were being undermined and assurances made by senior leaders were not being fulfilled. “How long should I endure this humiliation and mental agony?” he questioned.

Supporters Rally Behind Jeevan Reddy

Emphasizing that self-respect is more important than political positions, Jeevan Reddy removed the Congress scarf and donned a green shawl, symbolizing his exit.

In a show of solidarity, hundreds of local leaders—including sarpanches, mandal presidents, youth and women leaders—also announced their resignations. Supporters declared that they would continue to stand by him, calling it the beginning of a new political movement in Jagtial.
