Health Awareness and Equal Opportunities for Women

(By Our Staff Reporter)

Vijayawada, Mar03: IPS officer Malika Garg stated that women can reach the highest positions in any field if they recognize their potential and move forward with confidence. She attended as the chief guest at the Women’s Day celebrations organized by the women officers of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board on Friday at a private hotel in Guru Nanak Colony and addressed the gathering.

The program was held under the chairmanship of APPCB Chairman Dr. P. Krishnaiah. Dr. Sravanthi, founder of Sravanthi Hospitals, also participated in the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. P. Krishnaiah said that the role of women is extremely crucial in the development of society. He stated that women are demonstrating their talent not only in managing families effectively but also in fields such as administration, science, healthcare, and environmental protection. He added that providing equal opportunities to women is the true path to development. He also emphasized the need for greater participation of women in environmental protection.

IPS officer Malika Garg said that women’s empowerment should not remain merely a slogan but must be practiced in every woman’s life. She noted that although women in some sections of society still face various challenges, they can overcome them through education, self-confidence, and financial independence. She advised that women should not limit themselves by thinking they can do only certain types of work and not others. Instead, they should have the courage to face any situation.

She further said that it is a mistake to remain in the mindset of waiting for someone else to come forward and encourage us. Rather than waiting for others, women must motivate themselves. She shared an example from her own experience, saying that when she was serving as the election observer in Chandigarh, she was suddenly asked to take charge as the Superintendent of Police in Palnadu. Having previously served as SP in Prakasam district, she initially thought the assignment in Palnadu would be easy and immediately traveled overnight to Narasaraopet. However, she was surprised to learn that severe disturbances had broken out there. She quickly changed her approach, formed a team, and stepped into action. Despite the extremely challenging circumstances, she was able to bring the situation under control in a short period of time. Therefore, she emphasized that every woman must believe that self-confidence is what guides and strengthens them.

She also advised that instead of judging others, individuals should evaluate themselves and review their own mistakes and strengths. By staying away from overconfidence and transforming self-confidence into their greatest strength, every woman can emerge as a courageous and inspiring figure.

Dr. Sravanthi, speaking on the occasion, said that women who take care of their families often neglect their own health. However, once they reach middle age, they should undergo health check-ups at least twice a year. This helps in identifying potential health issues early and makes it easier to address them. She emphasized that women should not think only about their families but should also take time for themselves. They should allocate some time each day to relax and spend time with themselves.

Speaking about teenagers, she cautioned that many foods available from roadside vendors are often adulterated, and young people should avoid consuming such food. She noted that adulterated food can lead to hormonal imbalances and other health problems at an early age. Therefore, women should ensure that their children consume home-cooked meals and maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes physical activity and adequate sleep. Only then can everyone remain healthy and happy.

During the event, the guests distributed prizes to the winners of special games and competitions organized for the women staff of the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board.

A large number of students from Siddhartha College, Vijayawada attended the Women’s Day celebrations. APPCB Chief Environmental Engineer M. Rajasekhar, Senior Administrative Manager and CAO Vennela Srinu, along with officers and staff from the Head Office, Zonal Office, Vijayawada and Guntur Regional Offices also participated in the event in large numbers.
