A Fearless Officer with a Human Touch

Born on March 29, 1966, in Pedapudi village of Guntur district, Chadalavada Umesh Chandra was brilliant from a young age. He studied at Hyderabad Public School, graduated in Economics from Nizam College with a gold medal, and later topped Osmania University in his Master’s degree. Driven by a passion to serve society, he cleared the Civil Services in 1991 and joined the IPS.

During his service, Chadalavada Umesh Chandra earned a reputation as both strict and compassionate. As ASP in Warangal, he fought Naxalites bravely. In Pulivendula and Kadapa, he controlled factional violence, earning the title “Lion of Kadapa.” He transformed police stations into people-friendly centers and ensured free and fair elections in 1998, strengthening democratic values.

Chadalavada Umesh Chandra’s Sacrifice and Everlasting Legacy

As SP Karimnagar and later AIG Hyderabad, Chadalavada Umesh Chandra continued to inspire with his leadership. However, his firm stand against extremism led to tragedy. On September 4, 1999, he was assassinated in a Naxalite attack near SR Nagar, Hyderabad. Even in his final moments, he showed unmatched bravery.

The legacy of Chadalavada Umesh Chandra lives on. His statues at SR Nagar and Tenali remind people of his sacrifice. Every year, thousands gather to pay tribute. His bond with the public was extraordinary—when he was transferred from Kadapa, people came out in tears, asking him not to leave.

On March 29, 2026, his 60th birth anniversary will be observed across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Chadalavada Umesh Chandra remains not just a name, but an inspiration for generations. His life teaches that real power lies in service, not authority.
