Highlighting the importance of leadership among women, Andhra Pradesh Women’s Commission Chairperson Dr. Rayapati Shailaja stated that true empowerment can only be achieved when women develop leadership qualities and act independently. The women leadership empowerment Amaravati discussion gained attention during a key program held at VIT-AP University.

Women Leadership Empowerment Amaravati: Need for Independent Decision-Making

Dr. Shailaja was speaking as the chief guest at the event titled “Barriers & Building Futures: Women in Leadership in the Contemporary World,” organized by the Society for Public Law and Governance at VIT-AP School of Law in Amaravati.

She noted that while women have made significant progress in education and employment compared to the past, achieving complete equality still requires sustained effort. Stressing the importance of starting change at home, she said families must promote equal opportunities for both men and women.

Referring to the 33% reservation for women in local bodies, she pointed out that in many cases, real decision-making power still remains with men. She urged women to take charge and actively participate in leadership roles, strengthening the women leadership empowerment Amaravati vision.

Women Leadership Empowerment Amaravati: Policy Support and Social Responsibility

Dr. Shailaja also proposed that maternity leave should be extended to married women pursuing education, ensuring their academic progress is not interrupted. She further emphasized increasing women’s representation in Parliament and State Assemblies so they can contribute effectively to policy-making.

She highlighted that ensuring women’s safety is a shared responsibility of society. The Women’s Commission, she said, is actively addressing issues such as child marriages, teenage pregnancies, and the spread of misinformation on social media.

Emphasizing the role of women in nation-building, Dr. Shailaja stated that women are not only the backbone of families but also key contributors to societal and national development. She reaffirmed that the Commission will continue working towards protecting women’s rights, ensuring justice, and creating awareness.

The program concluded with a call for collective efforts to strengthen the women leadership empowerment Amaravati initiative and build a more equal and inclusive society.
