Emphasizing the need for a progressive and safe society, Guntur Joint Collector Ashutosh Srivastava stated that eliminating child marriages must be a collective goal. The Guntur child marriage eradication initiative gained momentum during the district-level closing ceremony of the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign held on Tuesday at the S.R. Sankaran Conference Hall.

Guntur Child Marriage Eradication: Officials Stress Collective Responsibility
The event marked the conclusion of a 100-day action plan conducted from November 27 to March 8. Addressing the gathering as chief guest, the Joint Collector highlighted the importance of coordination among government departments to achieve Guntur child marriage eradication.
He noted that child marriages have severe consequences, particularly for girls, including health complications, early family responsibilities, and loss of education and career opportunities. Stressing awareness, he urged parents and communities to recognize child marriage as a serious social evil and actively work towards preventing it.
Zilla Parishad CEO V. Jyothi Basu also emphasized that officials at every level must carry out their duties responsibly to ensure that every village in the district becomes free from child marriages. The Guntur child marriage eradication campaign, she said, requires continuous monitoring and strong implementation.

Guntur Child Marriage Eradication: Awareness and Protection Measures Strengthened
District Education Officer Dr. Saleem Basha stated that special attention would be given to children who are out of school or irregular in attendance, as they are more vulnerable to child marriage. Awareness programs will be conducted across educational institutions to support the Guntur child marriage eradication mission.
District Women and Child Welfare Officer Prasuna stressed the need for identifying vulnerable children at the grassroots level and ensuring their protection through coordinated efforts between departments and voluntary organizations.

A Deputy Superintendent of Police from the Women Police Station stated that Child Welfare Police Officers in every police station will work in a child-friendly manner to enforce laws and prevent child marriages.
During the program, children rescued from the risk of child marriages were felicitated, and participants took a pledge to support a child marriage-free society. Officials from multiple departments attended the event, reaffirming their commitment to achieving Guntur child marriage eradication.
