Mangalagiri: Nara Lokesh flood protection wall project took a major step forward on Monday as Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh laid the foundation stone for a massive retaining wall in Tadepalli town of the Mangalagiri constituency. The long-awaited project aims to protect thousands of residents from recurring flood threats along the Krishna River.

The retaining wall will be constructed at Seethanagaram Mahanadu area in Tadepalli along the right bank of the Krishna River, downstream of the Prakasam Barrage. The ambitious infrastructure project will be executed at an estimated cost of ₹294.20 crore and will cover a stretch from 0.9 km to 2.610 km along the riverbank.

Minister Nara Lokesh formally launched the project by laying the foundation stone and unveiling a commemorative plaque at the site. Residents of the region have been demanding a permanent solution to flooding for decades, and the project marks a major step in fulfilling that long-pending demand.

Nara Lokesh Flood Protection Wall Project to Safeguard Tadepalli

The Nara Lokesh flood protection wall project has been designed to withstand severe flood conditions and ensure long-term safety for the residents of low-lying areas. Officials said the structure will be capable of handling flood flows of up to 15 lakh cusecs, making it one of the strongest flood control systems planned in the region.

Unlike a conventional retaining wall, the structure will be built using advanced pile-raft technology. Around 1,920 deep piles will be installed at depths ranging from 26 to 38 metres below the ground, strengthening the foundation and enabling the wall to withstand heavy water pressure and possible seismic activity.

Nara Lokesh Flood Protection Wall to Benefit 50,000 Residents

Once completed, the Nara Lokesh flood protection wall will provide permanent protection to nearly 50,000 residents living in low-lying areas such as Sundarayya Nagar and Mahanadu Colony in Tadepalli.

The project will also safeguard important infrastructure in the Amaravati capital region and protect National Highway-65 from flood damage.

Officials said the project, which had been pending for decades, moved quickly after the government secured ₹294.20 crore administrative approval and completed the tender process within a short time.

Thameem Ansariya, Tadepalli Mandal TDP President Dasari Krishna, and Tadepalli Town President Vallabhaneni Venkata Rao.

The project is expected to become a major milestone in strengthening flood protection infrastructure in the Mangalagiri constituency.
