Mangalagiri: Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education and IT, inaugurated the High-Level Canal Lift Irrigation Scheme at Pedavadlapudi village in Mangalagiri constituency on Monday as part of various development programmes in the region.
The project, completed at a cost of ₹14.88 crore, aims to provide irrigation water to thousands of acres of agricultural land in the surrounding areas and improve agricultural productivity for farmers.
Minister Nara Lokesh received a warm welcome from local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders, party workers, and villagers when he arrived at Pedavadlapudi. Later, he formally inaugurated the lift irrigation scheme by cutting the ribbon and switching on the pumps that began pumping water through the canal system. He also unveiled a commemorative plaque installed at the project site.
Nara Lokesh Inaugurates Lift Irrigation Project
The High-Level Canal Lift Irrigation Scheme has a water discharge capacity of around 250 cusecs. Through this project, irrigation water will be supplied to nearly 25,344 acres of agricultural land across the Mangalagiri, Tenali, and Ponnur constituencies, providing significant relief to farmers in the region.
Officials stated that four pumps have been installed to lift and distribute water effectively through the canal network. The project was completed after the release of funds as promised by Nara Lokesh during the election campaign, fulfilling a key commitment made to farmers in the area.
Speaking on the occasion, local leaders said the project would help improve agricultural productivity and ensure better water availability for farmers who have long faced irrigation challenges.

Several prominent leaders and officials attended the programme, including Andhra Pradesh Padmashali Welfare and Development Corporation Chairman Nandam Abaddayya, TTD Board Member Tammisetti Janaki Devi, Guntur Parliament TDP General Secretary Pothineni Srinivasa Rao, Mangalagiri Rural TDP President Pallabothula Srinivasa Rao, and Town President Padavala Mahesh.

District Collector A. Thameem Ansariya, MTMC Commissioner Sheikh Aleem Basha, and other officials were also present during the inauguration ceremony. The event marked an important step towards strengthening irrigation infrastructure and supporting farmers in the region.
