Bhimavaram, March 21, 2026: In a significant move to strengthen rural healthcare access, the Mobile Medical Unit West Godavari initiative has been introduced under the leadership of District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani. The project aims to deliver essential medical services directly to people living in remote coastal fishing villages, ensuring timely and accessible healthcare for underserved communities.

Deliver Doorstep Healthcare

The Mobile Medical Unit West Godavari is part of the innovative “Your Doctor at Your Doorstep” program, implemented through the Indian Red Cross Society with support from CSR initiatives and the Rural Electrification Corporation. The project will be executed over three years with an estimated cost of ₹1.30 crore.

West Godavari district has earned national recognition by being selected among 30 Red Cross branches across India for this initiative. This achievement reflects the district’s consistent excellence in healthcare outreach programs, including blood donation drives and welfare services, for which it received a prestigious Gold Medal last year.

The mobile unit will be fully equipped with medical facilities and staffed by a dedicated team comprising a doctor, nurse, pharmacist, and driver. This team will visit households across targeted villages, focusing on vulnerable populations such as SC/ST communities and economically weaker sections.

Targets Maternal, Child and Public Health

The primary objective of the Mobile Medical Unit West Godavari is to enhance primary healthcare services in rural regions. The initiative focuses on reducing maternal and infant mortality rates, controlling communicable diseases, improving immunization coverage, and lowering overall mortality rates.

Healthcare services under the project will specifically cater to pregnant women, children aged 0–6 years, senior citizens above 60 years, and patients suffering from diseases such as tuberculosis, dengue, and malaria. Additionally, individuals with chronic and lifestyle-related illnesses will receive continuous monitoring and treatment.

The project is designed to serve around 100 patients daily, reaching approximately 2,000 beneficiaries every month and nearly 25,000 people annually. The official launch is scheduled for March 23, with services initially covering 18 villages in Narasapuram mandal.

Collector Nagarani emphasized that the Mobile Medical Unit West Godavari will complement existing Red Cross services like blood and thalassemia care. She stated that this initiative will significantly bridge the healthcare gap in rural areas, ensuring comprehensive and accessible medical services for all sections of society.
