What the SIT Report Revealed
How YSRCP Responded to the Allegations
The Tirumala Laddu Controversy has triggered a major political storm in Andhra Pradesh following the submission of the SIT report. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had earlier alleged that animal fat was mixed in the sacred Tirumala prasadam during the previous YSRCP regime. The allegations sparked widespread reactions among devotees across the country. However, subsequent developments and political counterattacks have intensified the debate, turning the issue into a major confrontation between the TDP-led coalition and YSRCP.
After the coalition government came to power, Chandrababu alleged that animal fat had been mixed into the Tirumala prasadam during the previous YSRCP regime. These allegations sparked widespread anguish and anger among Lord Venkateswara’s devotees across the country and around the world. Subsequently, the Supreme Court intervened and ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which later submitted its report. The report stated that the Tirumala prasadam was prepared without even a drop of milk and that adulteration had indeed taken place.

In reality, the ruling party should have used this report to politically corner the YSRCP. However, surprisingly, it was the YSRCP that gained the upper hand. Despite allegedly being at fault, Jagan and his associates, through pressure tactics and counter-attacks, rendered the ruling party ineffective. With the report stating that adulteration had occurred and leaving ambiguity regarding the use of animal fat, the YSRCP intensified its offensive. Its leaders accused Chandrababu of playing with the sentiments of Tirumala devotees, questioned his faith in Lord Venkateswara, and demanded that he apologize to Hindus.
Although there were claims that serious adulteration had taken place in the prasadam and that prohibited substances were used with the blessings of YSRCP leaders at the time, the party aggressively escalated the “laddu politics” to its peak. As a result, despite making grave mistakes, the YSRCP managed to politically corner Chandrababu, forcing the coalition to launch a full-scale counter-attack. Chandrababu and his son must reflect on how such a situation arose.

Initially, TDP leaders failed to curb the YSRCP’s counter-offensive in the adulteration issue. They underestimated the opposition. Leveraging its strong social media network, the YSRCP pushed its narrative aggressively. It organized rallies with its leaders claiming they had received a clean chit in the matter. Even leaders like Bhumana Karunakar Reddy, who were perceived to be deeply involved in the controversy, undertook purification fasts and penance programs. The political drama orchestrated by the YSRCP was unprecedented, akin to a thief accusing others of theft.
Meanwhile, TDP leaders were occupied with events such as the Davos summit, investment announcements worth lakhs of crores, development programs, and collectors’ conferences, but failed to effectively counter the YSRCP’s propaganda. There are doubts as to whether even a single senior coalition leader actually read the SIT report in detail.
Only after recognizing the damage caused by the YSRCP’s aggressive campaign did some coalition leaders react by putting up flex banners and making public statements. However, YSRCP leaders, who were waiting for opportunities, created further controversies, including the incident in Guntur.
From the beginning, the coalition has made repeated mistakes in handling the laddu adulteration issue. If Anil Kumar Singhal was believed to have played a key role in the controversy, why was he reappointed as TTD Executive Officer? Did coalition leaders not know his role at the time? Under whose pressure was he reinstated? Similarly, why were no strong actions taken against former TTD EO Dharma Reddy and former chairmen Y.V. Subba Reddy, Karunakar Reddy, and Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy for their alleged irregularities? These questions remain unanswered.

As predicted earlier, Chandrababu has now launched a counter-attack only after damage has been done. Today, coalition leaders including Pawan Kalyan, BJP state president Madhav, BJP minister Satya Kumar, TDP ministers Lokesh, Payyavula Keshav, Anam Ramnarayana Reddy, Parthasarathy, and TDP state president Palla Srinivas convened to block the YSRCP’s campaign. Later, Chief Minister Chandrababu addressed the media and expressed strong anger, warning that the YSRCP would be dealt with decisively.
However, there is a growing perception among TDP leaders and cadres that these are merely routine warnings and that the coalition may not be able to effectively counter the YSRCP’s propaganda. The very fact that the entire leadership had to be mobilized indicates how much the coalition has fallen behind in this issue.
