Guntur Collector Sai Kanth Varma meeting persons with disabilities at PGRS event

Guntur Collector Sai Kanth Varma personally meets persons with disabilities and receives their petitions.

Guntur, April 25: In a remarkable display of empathy and people-centric governance, Guntur Collector Sai Kanth Varma personally reached out to persons with disabilities during a special Public Grievance Redressal System (PGRS) program held on Saturday. His thoughtful gesture of going directly to the beneficiaries instead of asking them to come forward has drawn widespread appreciation.

The special PGRS session, organized at the S.R. Sankaran Conference Hall in Guntur, was dedicated to addressing the concerns of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and persons with disabilities. A large number of participants attended the event to submit their petitions directly to the district administration.

However, due to physical and accessibility challenges, several persons with disabilities found it difficult to reach the designated area where petitions were being received. Observing this situation, Collector Sai Kanth Varma immediately took the initiative and walked up to them, reassuring them with the words, “No need to struggle, we will come to you.”

This simple yet powerful act reflected his commitment to inclusive governance. The Collector not only received their petitions personally but also interacted with them warmly, listening to their concerns with patience and respect. The beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude, stating that such a gesture showcased true leadership and compassion.

During the interaction, several key issues were brought to the Collector’s attention. The participants requested the establishment of a dedicated building for persons with disabilities in the district headquarters, which would serve as a centralized support center. They also emphasized the need for better accessibility in government offices, particularly through the construction of ramps and other supportive infrastructure.

Responding promptly, District Collector assured them that their requests would be carefully examined and necessary steps would be taken. He emphasized that the district administration is committed to ensuring equal access to government services for all sections of society, especially for those facing physical challenges.

In addition to infrastructure-related requests, several applicants submitted petitions seeking the issuance of SADAREM certificates, employment opportunities, distribution of hearing aids, and other welfare benefits. The Collector directed the concerned officials to review these applications and take appropriate action at the earliest.

The special PGRS program served as an important platform for marginalized communities to voice their concerns directly to the administration. The proactive approach of Collector Sai Kanth not only ensured that the grievances were heard but also reinforced the importance of sensitivity and accessibility in governance.

Officials from various departments, including revenue, health, social welfare, education, and rural water supply, were present at the event. Their participation ensured that the petitions received could be addressed in a coordinated and efficient manner.

The initiative highlights how small yet meaningful actions can make a significant difference in public service. By prioritizing accessibility and empathy, district collector Varma has set a strong example of responsive governance.

As the district continues to focus on inclusive development, such efforts are expected to strengthen trust between the public and the administration, ensuring that no one is left behind.
