Steps to Stop Illegal Boat Entry

A crucial meeting was held at the Tikkana Convention Hall under the chairmanship of District Collector Himanshu Shukla to address the issue of illegal fishing boats entering Andhra Pradesh coastal waters. Several senior leaders, including former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana and Maritime Board Chairman Damacharla Satya, participated in the discussions.

The focus was on preventing unauthorized entry of boats from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry into Andhra waters and ensuring the safety of local fishermen. Public representatives urged authorities to find a permanent solution to this long-standing issue affecting coastal communities.

Minister Kollu Ravindra revealed that four boats from Puducherry, which had been held at the Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour for eight months, were recently taken away by unidentified persons, causing distress among fishermen. He noted that such disputes have persisted for nearly two decades and require urgent resolution.

Strengthening Coastal Security

To tackle the issue, the government has intensified patrolling along the Juvvaladinne coast using mechanized boats under a dedicated task force. The minister stated that additional boats will be deployed before the fishing ban period ends to further strengthen surveillance.

He also pointed out that out of 27 marine police stations, 18 boats are currently under repair. The government will decide whether to repair or replace them after consulting Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Suggestions from MLAs and MLCs regarding enhanced patrolling, deployment of additional boats, and strengthening marine security systems will be presented to the Chief Minister for further action.

Financial Aid and Welfare Measures

Highlighting welfare initiatives, Kollu Ravindra said the government is focused on improving fishermen’s livelihoods through the full implementation of central schemes. Financial assistance of ₹20,000 has already been provided to 1.2 lakh fishermen, while pensions are being extended to those aged 50 and above.

He added that steps are being taken to provide mechanized boats on subsidy, ensuring better income opportunities for fishermen. The minister invited fishermen to engage in dialogue with the government to resolve ongoing issues and assured complete cooperation.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to Fishermen Welfare Support Andhra Pradesh, the minister stated that attempts to create unrest among fishermen will not succeed. He assured that the government will continue to prioritize their safety, security, and overall welfare.
