Amaravati: Telugu Theatre Revival is a key priority as Andhra Pradesh Cinematography, Tourism and Culture Minister Kandula Durgesh extended greetings on World Theatre Day and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring the glory of Telugu theatre.
He said the coalition government is preparing a comprehensive action plan to strengthen the theatre sector and will soon announce detailed guidelines to support artists and promote cultural development.
Awards and Recognition for Artists
The minister said the government has revived the prestigious Kandukuri Veeresalingam Pantulu Awards, which were previously neglected. These awards were presented to deserving artists, writers and technicians on April 16, marking Telugu Theatre Day, and another round of awards will be announced soon.
He also stated that efforts are underway to organise Nandi Awards and Nandi Theatre Festivals.

Strengthening Arts Under Leadership
Durgesh noted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, the government is giving top priority to arts and artists.
He described theatre as a powerful medium that reflects society and drives social change, connecting the past, present and future.

Modernisation and Support Measures
The minister said the government will support talented artists and modernise theatre by integrating new technology to attract younger audiences. Plans are also in place to upgrade auditoriums and cultural centres in major cities to international standards.
He added that theatre associations will be encouraged to revive mythological, historical and folk art forms. Ensuring financial stability for artists and recognising their talent remains a key goal of the government.
