The Andhra Pradesh government has intensified efforts to ensure safe drinking water for every household under the Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 (JJM 2.0), with a clear target of achieving “Har Ghar Jal” by 2028. Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0: Strengthening Rural Water Supply

Participating virtually from Amaravati in the MoU signing event held in New Delhi, Chandrababu Naidu emphasized that Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 will significantly strengthen rural drinking water infrastructure. The agreement between the Centre and the State focuses on improving both implementation and long-term maintenance of water supply systems.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the state had already introduced a comprehensive policy in September 2025 to ensure effective operation and maintenance. He added that the responsibility of managing drinking water systems has been entrusted to village panchayats, ensuring better accountability and sustainability.

Naidu also acknowledged the active role of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan in closely monitoring the progress of the mission. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for extending the mission until 2028 and requested continued support for completing the Polavaram Project within the targeted timeline.

Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0: Women Empowerment and Water Quality Focus

Union Jal Shakti Minister C. R. Patil stated that Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0 approvals were granted based on requests from multiple states, with Andhra Pradesh playing a key role in advocating its extension.

He revealed that during the first phase of the mission, tap water connections were provided to nearly 160 million households, while efforts are ongoing to cover an additional 30 million homes. Importantly, the minister suggested involving DWCRA women groups in water quality testing to ensure safe drinking water at the grassroots level.

Patil noted that the mission has already reduced the burden on millions of women who previously had to travel long distances to fetch water. With the implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission 2.0, this transformation is expected to continue, improving both quality of life and public health.
