Polavaram Project Modern Temple of Andhra Pradesh, said Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Dr. Nimmala Ramanaidu, emphasizing the importance of completing the prestigious irrigation project at the earliest. He stated that, as per the directions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, the coalition government is making preparations to complete the project before the historic Godavari Pushkaralu.

Polavaram: On Tuesday, the minister inspected the ongoing works of the Polavaram project and reviewed the progress at the site along with engineering experts and irrigation department officials. Later speaking to the media, he said that completion of the project would supply Godavari waters to North Andhra and Rayalaseema, helping transform the state into a drought-free and agriculturally prosperous region.
He said the Chief Minister’s vision is to make Andhra Pradesh drought-free through major irrigation projects, with Polavaram playing a key role. The government has also prepared an action plan to complete Polavaram and other irrigation projects in Rayalaseema and North Andhra in a systematic manner.
The minister said that both in the past and now, the coalition government has given top priority to the irrigation sector and is committed to completing these projects. He also recalled that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had clearly instructed officials not to compromise on quality standards in the construction of the project.

Referring to the diaphragm wall, which was damaged during the previous government’s tenure, Ramanaidu said that although experts suggested repairing it, the government decided to construct a new diaphragm wall to ensure quality and public safety.
He stated that the works are being carried out according to the Central Water Commission (CWC) designs, while following the recommendations and standards of an international expert committee. The Polavaram Project Authority is also monitoring the works regularly.
Out of the total 1,372 meters of the new diaphragm wall, about 1,300 meters have already been completed, and the remaining work is expected to be finished by the end of this month.

The minister added that vibro-compaction works to strengthen the soil at the ECRF dam construction site have been completed. He expressed confidence that the right and left canals, which are crucial for the project, will be completed by June this year.
Regarding compensation to displaced families, Ramanaidu said Rs.700 crore was distributed in 2016 during Chandrababu Naidu’s previous tenure. After the coalition government came to power again, Rs.1,900 crore has been distributed in two phases to support the displaced families.
He also warned that some middlemen are misleading displaced families by falsely claiming credit for the compensation. The minister directed officials to take strict action against such intermediaries and advised displaced people to remain cautious.
The minister reiterated that the government will accept suggestions, criticism, and feedback regarding the project but will never compromise on quality and safety standards in the construction of the Polavaram project.
Water Resources Department Advisor M. Venkateswara Rao, ENC Narasimha Murthy, Project Administrator Abhishek, representatives of contracting agencies, and other project officials were present.
