Nellore, March 9: AP Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja warned that strict action would be taken against those who harass women, emphasizing that protecting women’s rights and ensuring their safety remain a top priority for the Commission.

A Mahila Jan Sunwai (Women’s Public Hearing) programme was organized on Monday at the Nellore Zilla Parishad meeting hall under the supervision of the State Women’s Commission. Women from different parts of the district attended the programme in large numbers and submitted petitions explaining the problems they are facing in their families and communities.

Mahila Jan Sunwai Held to Address Women’s Issues

During the programme, AP Women’s Commission Chairperson Rayapati Sailaja carefully examined the complaints submitted by the women and directed the concerned officials to take immediate steps to address them. She instructed police officers to investigate every complaint seriously and ensure that justice is delivered to the victims without delay.

Speaking to the media on the occasion, she said that these public hearing programmes are being conducted across the state following the directions of the National Commission for Women. The initiative is part of the activities organized in connection with International Women’s Day, which is observed worldwide on March 8.

She explained that Mahila Jan Sunwai programmes are being conducted from March 8 to March 13 in different districts to provide women with a direct platform to present their grievances before the authorities. Through these meetings, the Commission aims to understand the problems faced by women and ensure timely solutions.

Rayapati Sailaja stated that the programme held in Nellore was the first of its kind in the state under this initiative. Similar programmes are being organized across the country to strengthen the system for addressing women’s grievances.

Immediate Action on Complaints

The Chairperson said that more than 30 women submitted petitions during the programme. Most of the complaints were related to domestic violence, harassment within families, exploitation of elderly persons, and issues related to forced labour.

She assured that every complaint would be thoroughly examined and necessary action would be taken in accordance with the law. In some cases, the officials present at the venue were instructed to initiate immediate measures to resolve the issues.

Rayapati Sailaja also pointed out that many women find it difficult to travel to the Women’s Commission office in Mangalagiri to submit their complaints. Therefore, the Commission decided to conduct public hearings in districts so that women can easily present their problems and seek assistance.

She reiterated that the State Women’s Commission is committed to ensuring that no woman in society suffers injustice and that all complaints are addressed promptly and fairly.

Earlier, Revenue Divisional Officer Anusha welcomed the Chairperson at the Nellore R&B Guest House upon her arrival.

The programme was attended by ICDS Project Director Hena Sujan, ZP CEO Sridhar Reddy, Legal Counsellor Poojitha, CI Subbarao, Social Welfare Deputy Director Shobharani, ICDS staff, and several other officials.
