Nellore Police Intensify Awareness Campaign Against Drug Abuse

Eagle Clubs and Drone Monitoring Strengthen Anti-Drug Measures in Nellore

Under the directions of Nellore District Superintendent of Police Dr. Ajitha Vejendla, IPS, and following the guidance of Additional SP (Admin) CH. Soujanya, the Nellore police have been conducting extensive awareness programs in schools and colleges across the district to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse.

As part of the initiative, the police have established 988 Eagle Clubs across the district. In coordination with the railway police, excise department, and the narcotics control wing, awareness campaigns are being organized under the slogan “Say No to Drugs, Bro.”

The Nellore police are also monitoring various areas across the district using 24 drones. Officials stated that individuals found addicted to narcotic substances are being referred to rehabilitation centres. Counseling is being provided through the two de-addiction centres available in the district to help them overcome addiction.

During these awareness sessions, students are educated about the harmful consequences of narcotic substances such as ganja. Police officials explained the negative effects of drug abuse on physical and mental health, as well as its impact on a person’s future and criminal record.

Authorities also emphasized that both the illegal transportation and consumption of drugs are punishable offences, and legal action will be taken even against those who consume narcotic substances.

Police officials warned that drug addiction often begins as a casual habit among youth but eventually turns into a serious dependency that can destroy their future.

They also explained the role and activities of the Eagle Clubs, along with the purpose of the Eagle toll-free helpline number 1972. College managements were advised to take strict measures to prevent the use of tobacco products within campus premises.

During the program, students were encouraged to collectively raise the slogan “Say No to Drugs, Bro” and display placards promoting drug-free awareness.

Officials stated that the primary objective of the program is to increase awareness among students about the dangers of drugs and encourage them to act responsibly.

Police further appealed to the public to report any illegal or anti-social activities, including the sale or use of narcotic substances, by dialing 112 or the Eagle toll-free number 1972. They assured that the identity of those providing information will be kept strictly confidential.
