Araku Valley (Andhra Pradesh), Feb 11: In a major push to promote premium coffee production and improve the livelihood of tribal farmers, the Coffee Board of India has intensified its activities across eleven mandals of Alluri Sitharama Raju district to give global recognition to Araku Valley Coffee. In a significant step towards promoting quality coffee production and enhancing the income of tribal farmers, the initiatives of the Coffee Board, Government of India in Andhra Pradesh have gained renewed momentum in the Eleven mandals of Alluri seetharamaraju District. Several focused measures are being implemented to provide global recognition to “Araku Coffee” and ensure direct benefits to local growers.
As part of this initiative, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) organised a special media visit for journalists from Uttarakhand. During the visit, media representatives were taken to the Coffee Board-operated coffee nursery at Musiri village in Dumbriguda mandal in Araku region. The journalists were briefed on the process of raising coffee seedlings, modern nursery management practices, and quality control standards being followed to ensure high-grade production.
The Coffee Board, functioning under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, has been actively promoting sustainable coffee cultivation in the Araku region.
Senior Liaison Officer, Minumuluru of the Coffee Board, Shri Samala Ramesh, informed that special emphasis is being laid on modern agricultural techniques, improved planting material, organic cultivation and enhanced processing infrastructure in the region. Farmers are being provided regular training and technical guidance, and scientific methods are being adopted to improve the quality and yield of coffee. Junior Liaison Officer, Arakuvalley Smt. V.V.K.M. Lakshmi was also present during the interaction.
The Government of India is extending technical guidance, financial assistance, market linkages, and branding support to coffee growers. A dedicated marketing strategy has been developed to promote “Araku Valley Coffee” in national and international markets.
Local tribal farmers welcomed the initiative, stating that the efforts would significantly enhance their income and provide due recognition to their hard work. Experts believe that with sustained policy support and scientific intervention, Araku Coffee has the potential to emerge as a leading premium coffee brand of the country.
The Coffee Board has further stated that new projects will be launched in the coming years to augment coffee production and boost exports from the Araku region, Alluri seetharamaraju district, Andhra Pradesh
