The Press Information Bureau (PIB), Hyderabad, conducted a one-day workshop titled ‘VARTALAP’ in Sangareddy, focusing on gender issues, government schemes for women, and the role of artificial intelligence in journalism. The VARTALAP workshop Hyderabad brought together around 130 journalists from print and electronic media to enhance their professional skills in the digital age.
VARTALAP Workshop Hyderabad: Focus on Fake News and AI in Journalism
The workshop began with a ceremonial lamp lighting attended by dignitaries and participants. Addressing the gathering, PIB Additional Director General Smt. Shruti Patil highlighted the importance of accurate information dissemination across ministries.
She explained that the PIB Fact Check Unit plays a critical role in identifying and debunking fake news, especially with the growing influence of AI-generated content. The VARTALAP workshop Hyderabad aims to equip journalists with modern tools and techniques to ensure responsible reporting and maintain credibility.
Sangareddy District Collector Ms. P. Pravinya, the chief guest, stressed the increasing challenges posed by misinformation in the digital era. She warned that even a small piece of false information could create panic and damage public trust, emphasizing the need for strong fact-checking mechanisms.

VARTALAP Workshop Hyderabad: Gender Sensitivity and Responsible Use of AI
Senior journalist Sajaya Kakarla spoke on gender sensitivity, stating that equality must begin at home and be reflected in media narratives. She urged journalists to play an active role in spreading awareness on gender issues through their reporting.
Another speaker, Smt. Satya Priya, demonstrated various AI tools such as NotebookLM, ChatGPT, Google Pinpoint, ElevenLabs, and Gemini AI. She encouraged journalists to adopt these technologies responsibly to improve accuracy while cautioning against sharing sensitive information on such platforms.

The VARTALAP workshop Hyderabad concluded with an interactive session where journalists raised questions and shared feedback. PIB officials assured that the suggestions would be conveyed to the Ministry.
Officials also highlighted that the Government of India is implementing welfare schemes aimed at supporting journalists, further strengthening the media ecosystem.
