The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has forecast mixed weather conditions across the state over the next three days, with a combination of intense heat and scattered thunderstorms expected in several districts.

According to APSDMA Managing Director Prakhar Jain, the state is currently under the influence of a trough extending from Vidarbha through Telangana, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu, reaching up to the Comorin region. This weather system is creating unstable atmospheric conditions, leading to contrasting patterns—scorching heat in some areas and rainfall in others.
On Tuesday (May 5, 2026), light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is likely in parts of Alluri Sitarama Raju district, the Polavaram region, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, Konaseema, and East Godavari. Similar weather activity is expected in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, West Godavari, Chittoor, and Tirupati districts.
Officials say these scattered showers may bring temporary relief from the heat but could also pose risks due to lightning and gusty winds. Farmers, in particular, have been urged to remain cautious while carrying out agricultural activities. Authorities advised farmers, agricultural workers, and cattle herders to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, as lightning strikes can be dangerous.

Despite the possibility of rainfall, large parts of the state continue to face high temperatures and humid conditions. The heatwave-like situation is expected to persist in several districts, increasing the risk of heat stress among the public.
On Monday, several regions recorded extremely high temperatures. Pedaparupudi in Krishna district registered a maximum temperature of 43.9°C, while Vijayawada East in NTR district recorded 43.1°C. Dornipadu in Nandyal district also experienced intense heat, with temperatures reaching 42.9°C.
Other areas such as Markapuram, Gudur, Tammada, Jammalamadugu, Dharmajigudem, Mantralayam, Therannapalli, Amaravati, Tavanampalle, Guntur, and Marripudi reported temperatures ranging between 41°C and 42.7°C. These figures indicate that a significant portion of the state is currently under severe heat conditions.
Data from APSDMA shows that out of the 28 districts in Andhra Pradesh, as many as 74 mandals across 16 districts recorded temperatures exceeding 41°C. This widespread rise in temperature highlights the ongoing heatwave impact, which is affecting daily life and outdoor activities.
Health officials have urged people to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, and limit outdoor work during peak afternoon hours. Special care should be taken for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
