Acid-Base Imbalance Awareness and Role of ABG Analysis

As part of improving acid-base imbalance awareness, Dr. Uday Kumar explained the critical role of Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) analysis in diagnosing imbalances. This diagnostic tool helps measure blood pH, oxygen levels, carbon dioxide levels, and bicarbonate concentration—key indicators required to maintain the body’s internal balance.

He noted that various conditions such as respiratory diseases, kidney disorders, sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, gastrointestinal disorders, asthma, and poisoning can disrupt acid-base balance. Without proper acid-base imbalance awareness, these conditions may worsen rapidly, leading to severe complications.

Early diagnosis through ABG tests allows doctors to identify the root cause and initiate timely treatment, significantly improving patient recovery rates. The session stressed that increasing acid-base imbalance awareness among doctors can directly contribute to saving lives, especially in critical care settings.

Dr. Y. Vishwa Jyothi, Chairman of the Indian Society of Critical Care Medicine, stated that modern diagnostic technologies for detecting acid-base disorders are now widely available. He presented several case studies to demonstrate practical approaches to diagnosis and treatment.

Medical Education Boosts Acid-Base Imbalance Awareness in Guntur

Reinforcing the need for acid-base imbalance awareness, IMA Guntur President Dr. T. Seva Kumar said that such CME programs are regularly conducted to keep doctors updated on the latest advancements in diagnostics and treatment.

IMA Guntur Secretary Dr. B. Sai Krishna emphasized that a thorough understanding of acid-base disorders is essential for effective patient management. He encouraged newly practicing doctors to join the Indian Medical Association, noting that the national body is currently offering special membership fee concessions until the end of the month.

He also highlighted various welfare schemes available for doctors across the state, urging medical professionals to take advantage of these opportunities while enhancing their knowledge through CME programs focused on acid-base imbalance awareness.
