Introduces First-of-Its-Kind Facility

The Tirumala Food Testing Lab Inauguration has introduced a first-of-its-kind high-tech laboratory dedicated exclusively to a temple in India. Developed jointly by the State Food Laboratory, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, and temple authorities, the facility represents a new benchmark in food safety.
Spread across 12,000 square feet, the laboratory houses advanced chemical and microbiology divisions equipped with cutting-edge technology. The Chief Minister personally inspected various sections of the facility and reviewed its capabilities in detail.
Officials explained that the lab is equipped with modern systems such as electronic tongue and electronic nose technologies, which can digitally analyse the taste and smell of food products with high precision. These tools ensure consistency and quality in prasadam prepared for devotees.
The Chief Minister noted with satisfaction that what started as a small water testing unit in 1981 has now evolved into a sophisticated laboratory capable of analysing between 1,000 and 1,500 samples every month.
Focuses on Preventing Adulteration

A key objective of the Tirumala Food Testing Lab Inauguration is to prevent adulteration in food ingredients used for temple prasadam, especially the famous laddu. Chandrababu Naidu sought detailed information from officials about the steps being taken to ensure the purity of raw materials, particularly ghee.
Officials informed him that advanced equipment such as gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography systems are being used to verify the quality of ghee and other ingredients. These systems were provided with support from the National Dairy Development Board in November 2024.
Since July 2025, extensive testing has been carried out regularly to eliminate any possibility of adulteration. The laboratory is also capable of detecting pesticide residues, antibiotics, and harmful heavy metals such as lead and arsenic in food materials, ensuring comprehensive safety checks.

Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that protecting the trust of devotees is the administration’s primary responsibility. He stressed that all possible measures must be taken to maintain the highest standards in food safety and service.
