Chandrababu Naidu marks a major milestone in ensuring food safety and maintaining the trust of millions of devotees visiting the temple each year. The state-of-the-art food and water analysis laboratory, built at a cost of ₹25 crore, reflects the government’s commitment to quality, transparency, and advanced technology in temple administration.

Introduces First-of-Its-Kind Facility

The Tirumala Food Testing Lab Inauguration has introduced a first-of-its-kind high-tech laboratory dedicated exclusively to a temple in India. Developed jointly by the State Food Laboratory, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, and temple authorities, the facility represents a new benchmark in food safety.

Spread across 12,000 square feet, the laboratory houses advanced chemical and microbiology divisions equipped with cutting-edge technology. The Chief Minister personally inspected various sections of the facility and reviewed its capabilities in detail.

Officials explained that the lab is equipped with modern systems such as electronic tongue and electronic nose technologies, which can digitally analyse the taste and smell of food products with high precision. These tools ensure consistency and quality in prasadam prepared for devotees.

The Chief Minister noted with satisfaction that what started as a small water testing unit in 1981 has now evolved into a sophisticated laboratory capable of analysing between 1,000 and 1,500 samples every month.

Focuses on Preventing Adulteration

A key objective of the Tirumala Food Testing Lab Inauguration is to prevent adulteration in food ingredients used for temple prasadam, especially the famous laddu. Chandrababu Naidu sought detailed information from officials about the steps being taken to ensure the purity of raw materials, particularly ghee.

Officials informed him that advanced equipment such as gas chromatography and high-performance liquid chromatography systems are being used to verify the quality of ghee and other ingredients. These systems were provided with support from the National Dairy Development Board in November 2024.

Since July 2025, extensive testing has been carried out regularly to eliminate any possibility of adulteration. The laboratory is also capable of detecting pesticide residues, antibiotics, and harmful heavy metals such as lead and arsenic in food materials, ensuring comprehensive safety checks.

Ensures Hygiene and Safety Standards

The Tirumala Food Testing Lab Inauguration also highlights the importance of maintaining strict hygiene standards in food preparation. The Chief Minister appreciated the advanced safety features of the laboratory, including specialised clean rooms and air handling systems designed for accurate bacterial detection.

He instructed officials to go beyond laboratory testing and conduct regular inspections of kitchens and food preparation areas. Ensuring cleanliness and hygiene at every stage of food preparation is essential to maintain the quality and safety of prasadam.

Chandrababu Naidu reiterated that protecting the trust of devotees is the administration’s primary responsibility. He stressed that all possible measures must be taken to maintain the highest standards in food safety and service.

Sets National Benchmark

The Tirumala Food Testing Lab Inauguration is being seen as a model initiative that could inspire similar measures across other religious institutions in the country. The Chief Minister described the project as a historic step that combines spiritual service with modern scientific practices.

By implementing advanced food safety technologies, the Tirumala temple aims to enhance both the health and confidence of devotees. The initiative reflects a forward-looking approach where tradition meets innovation.

Chandrababu Naidu expressed confidence that such efforts would further strengthen the reputation of Tirumala as a world-class pilgrimage centre known for both its spiritual significance and high standards of management.

Reinforces Devotee Confidence

The Tirumala Food Testing Lab Inauguration ultimately reinforces the confidence of millions of devotees who visit the temple every year. With advanced testing systems, strict hygiene measures, and continuous monitoring, the administration aims to provide a safe and reliable experience for all pilgrims.

The presence of Minister Satya Kumar Yadav, temple board members, senior officials, and laboratory staff at the inauguration highlighted the importance of the initiative. The collaborative effort between various agencies ensures that the highest standards are maintained.

As Tirumala continues to receive a massive number of devotees daily, such initiatives play a crucial role in ensuring that both faith and safety go hand in hand.
