Kharif Irrigation Works Andhra Pradesh: Deadline Set for May 15

During a video conference held at the Vijayawada camp office on Tuesday, the Minister instructed irrigation officials to complete all Operation & Maintenance (O&M) works by May 15. He stressed that even massive investments in irrigation projects would be futile without proper maintenance.

Dr. Ramanaidu pointed out that neglecting routine upkeep can severely impact water distribution during the Kharif season. He emphasized that desilting canals, repairing shutters, gates, and doors, and ensuring overall system efficiency are crucial under the Kharif irrigation works Andhra Pradesh plan.

Criticizing the previous administration, he alleged that maintenance works were largely ignored, leading to deteriorating infrastructure. He noted that even basic activities like greasing and minor repairs were not carried out, affecting irrigation performance.

Kharif Irrigation Works Andhra Pradesh: Increased Funding and Farmer Support

Highlighting the current government’s commitment, the Minister stated that while less than ₹200 crore was spent on maintenance over five years earlier, the present government has already sanctioned and utilized ₹878 crore within two years.

He directed officials to undertake O&M works on a war footing while maintaining high quality standards. The goal is to restore irrigation systems to optimal condition before the 2026 Kharif season, ensuring uninterrupted water supply to farmers.

In a move to support agriculture, the government has also permitted the supply of desilted soil from tanks to farmers at a nominal rate of ₹1 per cubic meter. This step is expected to improve soil fertility and aid cultivation under the Kharif irrigation works Andhra Pradesh initiative.

Senior officials, including KADA Commissioner Prasanthi, Irrigation Advisor Venkateswara Rao, ENC Narasimha Murthy, and Chief Engineers, participated in the meeting and reviewed progress.

The government’s proactive approach is expected to strengthen irrigation infrastructure and boost agricultural productivity across Andhra Pradesh.
