VIJAYAWADA — As a major milestone in its 38-year healthcare journey, Aster Ramesh Hospitals is launching the Aster Ramesh International Institute of Oncology to establish a cluster-level cancer care network connecting its facilities in Vijayawada, Guntur, and Ongole.
The initiative aims to provide unified, comprehensive cancer care across the region. The new institute will offer end-to-end services, ranging from early screening and diagnostic evaluations to medical, surgical, and radiation oncology, as well as nuclear medicine, pathology, radiology, rehabilitation, and palliative care.
Dr. Pothineni Ramesh Babu, Founder and Managing Director of Aster Ramesh Hospitals, stated that the initiative fulfills the group’s long-term vision to deliver integrated oncology care within a single healthcare framework.

Multidisciplinary Support for High-Complexity Cases
A distinguishing strength of the proposed regional network is its integrated approach for cancer patients who present with co-existing heart or other complex medical conditions.
“Cancer patients may also develop problems related to the heart, nervous system, lungs, kidneys, and other organs during the course of treatment. Our objective is to provide coordinated care in such complex situations through our strong multidisciplinary healthcare system,” said Dr. Ramesh Babu.
To manage complex cases, the institute will unite medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists with specialists in cardiology, pathology, radiology, nuclear medicine, anesthesiology, critical care, nutrition, pain management, and palliative care.
Phased Expansion and Clinical Leadership
The network will commence oncology operations in phases across Coastal Andhra Pradesh:
- Guntur: Comprehensive oncology services will begin within the next three months.
- Vijayawada & Ongole: Services will undergo full-scale expansion within the next year.
This hub-and-spoke configuration allows local communities to access specialized oncology care near their homes while drawing on the expertise across the broader hospital network.
The entire program is being developed under the clinical guidance of Dr. Somasekhar, Global Head of Oncology at Aster Group and Senior Surgical Oncologist. Dr. Ramesh Babu commended Dr. Somasekhar’s leadership and dedication as essential to transforming this vision into reality.
Leveraging Advanced Technology for Patient Care
The institute will leverage Aster Ramesh’s existing infrastructure, integrating Electronic Medical Records (EMR), advanced diagnostic imaging, and Tele-ICU capabilities across all three cities.
“Technology is not merely about having the most advanced equipment. Its purpose is to make healthcare safer, more accurate, more accessible, and more convenient for the patient,” Dr. Ramesh Babu emphasized.
Beyond direct treatment, the institute will maintain a strong focus on supportive care, nutrition, pain relief, long-term rehabilitation, and follow-up monitoring to support patients through every stage of recovery.
The media launch was attended by M.S. Ramamohana Rao, Chairman, Aster Ramesh Hospitals; Dr. Somasekhar, Global Head of Oncology, Aster; Dr. Phaniraj Kumar, Clinical Operations Head and Surgical Oncologist; Dr. Y. Karthik Chowdary, Chief Operating Officer, Cancer Unit; Dr. Mamatha, Deputy Managing Director; and Unit Heads Dr. Nithin, Dr. Suma, and Dr. Sudarshan.
