New Delhi: The Central Government has revealed that Telangana MBBS Seats currently stand at 9,540, along with 3,997 postgraduate medical seats. The data was shared in the Lok Sabha based on information provided by the National Medical Commission.
The details were presented in a written reply by Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel, responding to a question raised by MP Ramasahayam Raghurama Reddy. The update on Telangana MBBS Seats highlights the growing capacity of medical education in the state.

Telangana MBBS Seats in National Context and NEET Competition
Across India, there are currently 1,28,976 MBBS seats and 85,839 PG seats. The rise in Telangana MBBS Seats reflects the broader national effort to expand medical education infrastructure.
The Centre also pointed out the intense competition in the NEET examination. In 2025, over 22.76 lakh candidates registered for NEET-UG, with more than 22.09 lakh appearing for the exam. For 2026, registrations have already crossed 22.79 lakh. Additionally, around 2.42 lakh candidates appeared for NEET-PG 2025.
This surge in applicants shows the increasing demand for medical education and the pressure on available seats, including Telangana MBBS Seats.
Telangana MBBS Seats to Increase with New Medical Colleges
To meet rising demand, the Centre has approved several measures to expand seat capacity. A total of 157 new medical colleges have been sanctioned nationwide, with 137 already operational.
Additionally, approvals have been granted to increase 4,977 MBBS seats and 4,058 PG seats across 83 colleges. The government is also working to create 5,023 MBBS seats and 5,000 PG seats in government hospitals and postgraduate institutes.

The expansion plans are expected to further boost Telangana MBBS Seats and improve access to medical education. The Centre reiterated its commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and producing more qualified medical professionals across the country.
