Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar controversy over alleged Hyderabad drug party

Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar faces controversy after reports linked him to a drug party in Hyderabad.

The political circles in Andhra Pradesh are abuzz with speculation over a crucial question: Will TDP Expel Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar following the controversy surrounding an alleged drug party in Hyderabad? The incident has created significant embarrassment for the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), as it involves one of its sitting Members of Parliament. Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar Yadav reportedly came under police scrutiny after a raid at a farmhouse gathering in Hyderabad linked to former Pilot Rohith Reddy, a leader associated with the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS). As the controversy grows, political observers and party cadres alike are waiting to see what decision the TDP leadership will take regarding the young MP.

Drug Party Allegations Put TDP in Difficult Position

The controversy began after Hyderabad police reportedly conducted a raid at a private gathering held at a farmhouse. Several individuals present at the event were questioned, and among them was MP Putta Mahesh Kumar. Authorities allegedly conducted medical tests to determine whether the individuals present had consumed narcotic substances.

According to reports circulating in political circles, the first test conducted on the MP reportedly returned negative results. However, a subsequent medical test is said to have shown positive results, intensifying the controversy. Although official confirmation and legal proceedings are still awaited, the incident has triggered intense debate across Andhra Pradesh.

The situation has become politically sensitive because the TDP government under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been aggressively campaigning against drug abuse in the state. After returning to power, the government launched strict measures to curb narcotics trafficking and prevent the spread of drugs among youth and students.

The administration established specialized enforcement units and conducted statewide awareness campaigns to discourage drug consumption. Several programmes were launched in schools, colleges, and communities to educate young people about the dangers of narcotics.

Over the past two years, the government has reportedly invested significant resources in anti-drug operations and awareness programmes. Police and enforcement agencies have carried out raids and surveillance operations aimed at dismantling drug networks across the state.

Against this backdrop, the involvement of a sitting MP in such a controversy has placed the ruling party in a difficult situation. Party leaders now face the challenge of maintaining their anti-drug stance while addressing allegations against one of their own representatives.

Opposition parties, particularly the YSR Congress Party, have seized the opportunity to criticize the TDP government, accusing it of double standards. Opposition leaders argue that if the ruling party claims to be strict against drugs, it must take decisive action in this case as well.

Party Leadership May Order Inquiry

Within the TDP, discussions are reportedly underway about the possible course of action. Party insiders indicate that the leadership may first appoint a committee to investigate the facts surrounding the incident before announcing any disciplinary measures.

Such a committee would examine available evidence, including police reports and medical findings, before submitting a report to the party leadership. Based on the findings, the leadership may decide whether disciplinary action is necessary.

The key question currently dominating political discussions remains: Will TDP Expel Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar or will the party opt for a lesser disciplinary measure such as suspension?

Some reports suggest that the MP has already been informally advised to stay away from party activities until the inquiry is completed. This step is often taken by political parties to prevent further damage to their image while an investigation is ongoing.

The controversy has drawn additional attention because of Mahesh Kumar’s political background and family connections. He is the son of senior TDP leader and Putta Sudhakar Yadav, the MLA representing Mydukur constituency. He is also reportedly related to senior party leader and former minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu.

Observers note that despite being a member of the TDP, Mahesh Kumar has maintained friendly relations with several political figures in Telangana. He is known to have close ties with Talasani Srinivas Yadav, a prominent leader from Secunderabad.

Political analysts believe the controversy could have long-term consequences for the young MP’s political career. While he was once considered a promising leader with a bright future in politics, the current allegations have cast a serious shadow over his reputation.

For now, the TDP leadership appears to be carefully evaluating the situation before making any official statement. However, many political observers believe that the party may take strict action in order to protect its image and reinforce its stance against drug abuse.

Whether the party ultimately decides to suspend him or take the stronger step of expelling him remains uncertain. But one thing is clear: the controversy has already created a major political challenge for both the MP and the ruling party.
